Fall festival season in Coral Shores, Miami, and Cuban-American cooking-show star Miriam Quinones-Smith wakes to a corpse in her front yard: the woman kicked out of the school festival the day before. Her mother-in-law then puts her in charge of the Women's Club gala, which Miriam and her friends recast with Caribbean food trucks and a calypso band. At the country club they overhear a fight between the new head chef and the manager; soon the chef is dead at the bottom of the grand staircase. Suspects include a passed-over sous chef and an ex-girlfriend. With possible poisonings in the mix and the body count rising, Miriam must connect the dots before she dies in the deep freeze.
